Face lift in London, Bordeaux and Royan

A popular trend since the 1980s, facelifts are far from being an outdated technique. Over time, facelifts have evolved to provide a customised approach to each procedure.

Facelifts are still popular today, making it an irreplaceable technique in cosmetic facial procedures. Contrary to some beliefs, it has not been dethroned by thread lifts or by lifting techniques that do not require surgeries.

Facelifts provide a natural and lasting result on the face.

This procedure will improve your facial appearance. For example, if your cheekbones are drooping, jowls or a double chin appears, if wrinkles are beginning to emerge, facelifts can be the solution.

Thanks to this technique, Doctor Guillaume Lemierre, who practices this treatment in Bordeaux and Royan, is capable of giving your face a new image that is less tired and more attractive. You will feel younger with a more toned, smoother skin and with more volume… in a nutshell, you will have a sublime glowing look!

This technique is adapted to people nearing their 40s, whose skin has become looser and can benefit from Doctor Guillaume Lemierre’s procedure which can make you feel fresher and look more beautiful without altering your expressions or personality. You will be the same person, but improved, which is crucial to acknowledge from a psychological perspective. Your face will remain your face, but you will also discover a new you since Doctor Lemierre will preserve your expressions while making you feel more beautiful. The goal is to obtain a natural result which gives you something spectacular. You will still be you, but as your best version.

What are the different types of facelifts? What are the advantages and inconveniences of a facelift? Which results can you expect?

Below you will find the answers to these questions. In addition, doctor Guillaume Lemierre is available to answer all of your questions with an individual consultation session in any of his medical offices.

Summary:

Why choose a facelift?

Facelifts are meant to correct your cheeks, the lower part of your face, the contour of your face and your neck. Thanks to this surgical process, Doctor Guillaume Lemierre can tighten the skin on your face, your neck, and your muscles in those areas. You will benefit from a newfound glow and a radiant face. Around 40 to 50 years old, or as soon as you feel the desire, Doctor Lemierre can give you a personalised facelift, adapted to your specific needs, with natural and lasting results.

Doctor Lemierre offers several types of facelifts:

  • The classic facelift: cervico-facial lift

If your face is beginning to show signs of aging, whether it is near your temples, your neck, your cheeks, your naso-labial folds or your jowls, cervico-facial lifts can be adapted to your needs. This technique allows the doctor to work on the sagging and loosening of the skin while obtaining a natural result with very minimal scarring.

  • The temple lift

The temple lift allows Doctor Lemierre to focus on the temples, one of the regions not treated by the cervico-facial lift. A temple lift can also be accompanied by an eyelid surgery also known as a blepharoplasty. This procedure corrects signs of aging where the forehead meets the eyebrows and the upper eyelid.

  • Neck lift

Also known as the “mini facelift,” neck lifts allow Doctor Lemierre to address and remove any surplus skin in the lower third of the face. This can be dewlaps, wrinkles, or double chins around the neck area or jowls and marionette folds around the contour of the face.

If you smoke, you should quit smoking for at least one month before and after the procedure. Smoking increases and accelerates complications associated to general anaesthesia such as infection or necrosis and delays healing.

It is also essential to avoid all medication containing aspirin in the 10 days leading up to the procedure.

What are the advantages and possible inconveniences?

The advantages of a facelift are in the results:

  • You will feel more attractive
  • You will look less tired
  • You will look younger and more beautiful
  • You will have a radiant, smooth, glowing face
  • The procedure is not very painful
  • The post-operation recovery period is short

The inconveniences and possible risks of a facelift:

  • A haematoma can appear within the first 24 hours following the procedure
  • Delayed healing
  • An infection which can be identified with a fever and through red and painful zones where the scars are located
  • A facial paralysis, which is temporary and limited

The inconveniences are very rare.

Doctor Lemierre insists on pre-operation consultations. According to him, “every facelift is unique”. Pre-operative consultations are essential because they allow the doctor to understand your personal needs and wants in order to determine which techniques are best suited for your face. Should we also use microlipostructure? Liposuction on your neck? A blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)?

To get the most information from the consultation it is also important that you bring a photo of yourself.

What can you expect from a typical session?

Facelifts are done with general anaesthesia which means you will have to meet an anaesthesiologist before the procedure. Doctor Lemierre will simultaneously treat your facial and neck muscles in the case of the cervico-facial lift. In addition, he can also fill in certain areas of the forehead, the cheekbones, and the temples.

After anaesthesia, he will make small incisions to remove the extra skin. The incisions are done near the hairline, in front and behind the ears, in the natural creases below and near the neck; it all depends on which facelift you choose. These techniques do not leave any visible scars because they will have disappeared or be hidden.

After the procedure, Doctor Lemierre will put a bandage around your head leaving an opening for your eyes.

These procedures require precision. Doctor Lemierre has more than 10 years experience, making him specialised in facial cosmetic surgeries, and you can be confident he will do a great job.

The operation lasts about 3 hours and is followed by one night of hospitalisation. If other procedures are done at the same time such as a micro-lipostructure or a blepharoplasty, the procedure will take more time. The morning after the operation, Doctor Lemierre will remove the bandages.

In no way will your face be deformed. This is important to acknowledge and understand from a psychological perspective. Facelifts only tighten your skin in the right areas; it does not change your personality. Facelifts are an assured way to remove signs of aging around your face and neck areas.

A lasting and natural result

It will take a month after the procedure to see optimal results and within two to three months after the procedure you will see the final results.

Facelifts will make you look much younger. The results are stunning, natural, and will last several years. This is difference between facelifts and Botox or hyaluronic acid injections. Thanks to facelifts, you will have a result so natural that your friends and family will not even notice you have had an operation. Doctor Lemierre works with precision to ensure this result, so that there will be results without anyone being able to tell you had a procedure.

After the operation which only requires 24 hours of hospitalization, the last step will be to remove the bandages. The operation is simple and does not require nurses and you will leave the hospital with no bandages.

For optimal results, you will have the possibility to accompany your facelift with microlipostructure, hyaluronic acid injections, Botox, or a blepharoplasty.

What is the post-operation procedure and recovery period?

It is important to specify that the post-operative procedure is not as long as it used to be and the results are much better than before, when they used to make the face look frozen or too tight. At the beginning of the recovery period you will have some swelling and bruises. The extent of the swelling and bruises will vary depending on each person.

On average, within the first 15 days you will be back to normal.

In the first several days after the procedure, you can resume your regular working schedule even though your face still may be swollen.

You will need about two to three weeks to resume your regular sports activities.

The stitches are mostly absorbable so you will have almost nothing to remove post-operation.

Lastly, the follow-up procedures are fairly short and only require a short time away from your social life. One of the only inconveniences is some tension you will feel in your face and neck which will diminish within a few days.

If you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact your surgeon, Doctor Lemierre. He will respond to all your needs with a personalized consultation and will know how to get the best results for the morphology and anatomy of your face.

Take care of your scars

Within the first 15 days following the procedure, your scars will not be very obvious. Over time they will become more red, thicker, and harder. Do not worry, this is a good sign! It means they are healing. The inflammation period can last up to 9 months.

To ensure the healing of your scars and to make them nearly invisible, it is important to massage them. As of 15 days after the procedure, you will have to delicately apply a scarring cream which will be prescribed to you. The first massages can be painful, but do not be alarmed. Gradually, the pain will lessen as you massage the scars more often. The massages should last about a ten minutes, one to two times per day (in the morning and/or at night). Studies show that these massages reduce your scarring in the long-term, which improves the cosmetic results of your procedure.

A word from the surgeon for French Touch and a natural aspect

Facelifts and cosmetic facial surgeries have the reputation of being long and intense procedures. In reality, this is not the case. I adapt my techniques to each individual case to obtain a natural, younger, and lasting look.

I cannot guarantee the exact amount of years the results will last since the aging of our skin is not predictable and will continue after the procedure.

However, I can guarantee a beautiful and natural result. You will be completely recognizable to yourself and to your loved ones. You will still be you, just as your best version.

Cosmetic facial surgery is customised and adapted to the millimetre to your face, just as haute couture is.
